Aug 20-22 - Copenhagen (and Hannover)

Friends Dave and Cherry were in Europe to celebrate their first wedding anniversay.
They started in Denmark visiting her family and I came up to visit (and take advantage of their hospitality) for the weekend.
A late night drive got me to Kolding around 2 am.  The next day we were off to Copenhagen.

bridge

As the city is on an island, we had to cross a huge bridge to get there.

Borson

The old Stock Echange, topped by the Dragon Spire.
The spire itself is topped by three crowns signifying the Kalmar Union
by which the thrones of Denmark, Norway and Sweden were joined under Erik of Pomerania in 1397.

in which you can see the intertwining of the dragons' tails

The Twisted Spire of
the Church of Our Saviour
A figure of Christ holding a victory banner
stands atop a golden globe at the top of the spire

3 dragons

Again the motif of three crowned dragons
This time in front of the city hall (across from Tivoli Gardens)

And of course, what trip to Copehagen
would be complete without such a picture

A lighthouse ship in Copenhagen harbour.
Apparently there are still three of these contraptions afloat.

in front of the Royal Palace

Nyhavn

The odd angled corner leading into Nyhavn,
one of the prettiest street in the city.
See the pictures below for better views.

Left is a church in the Citadel.

Above is the view looking back towards Denmark from aboard the ferry to Rostok, Germany.

From Rostok we headed to Hannover to meet up with more friends.
cycling

Cherry, Dave, Mike and Britta touring the city by bicycle.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay long.
So it was back to Cologne, stopping briefly for "THE" shot of the Cathedral:
